That's what I suspect. I think the holds were mostly empty. They set the ship on fire then get rescued. Insurance pays for the ship and a full load of luxury cars that we either never on the ship, or were already unloaded somewhere.
Maybe not insurance fraud. Maybe just cargo theft.
Quite easy to do. But the ship has to sink to hide the evidence of the missing cars.

Had to have been scuttled. It was a hazard and had to be dealt with. I'm surprised no one tried to claim it.
