I see your point, but wouldn't Putin let his troops slaughter anything in his path and bomb the living daylights out of every city if his goal was all out war with NATO?
It seems like Russia is handling this more like a police operation than a more traditional military invasion. I get that Putin may be trying to win hearts and minds in Ukraine, but that doesn't make much sense if the overall goal is causing a world war.
I know this entire operation is still in the early stages and I may certainly see Russian troops act more like they have in the past when they're executing a military operation, but as of right now, my gut is telling me that this entire operation is part of the plan.
