Who are we as individuals and societies? We accept that most people are basically "good" but are also prone to act with extreme self interest given the right opportunity.
We are shaped largely by our genetics while we are embedded within and reacting to our unique cultural matrix. We are even somehow shaped epigenetically by the experiences of our ancestors, causing us to respond to stimuli and events in ways that would lead us to be characterized as NPCs ourselves.
