I think this is likely a trial run or head fake. I do not think you would want to attempt amphibious landings in early March. The window of opportunity for amphibious assault would be in mid-April.

This reminds me of that WWII movie "The Longest Day."

Everyone was wondering when the Allies would invade; arguing about when the best time would be depending on weather and all that.

There was a German General who was playing a war game as Eisenhower and his tactic was to invade counter-intuitively, because it would be unexpected.

Yea, I think that would only be possible in this case if China has substantial technologic advancements of which we are not aware (imminently possible).
