This lack of empathy could be a direct result of internet programming. These kids are always on thier phones and watching you tube videos. Often times people are getting seriously hurt in these videos and the kids laugh.
The kids that work for me have shown me video of guys playing russian roulette aiming at thier feet. One guy gets shot in the foot and goes to the hospital. He comes back and the stupid bastard plays again. The first shot at this guys foot is an empty chamber so the shooter rapid fires until the same guy is shot again in the other foot. The kids laugh at it.
They have shown me another video of three people in a car and they argue that the gun isnt loaded. The driver aims at the passengers head and pulls the trigger. The gun was loaded. The kids laughed again as the driver and back seat passenger get out and run for it abandoning their friend. (the guy lives btw)
And there are thousands upon thousands of these videos out there.
I realize laughing at stupid actions is natural, but these events had real consequences. The kids just seem immune to it. Like their emotions have been dulled down to nothing. Im sure the internet plays a role in this and often wonder what role household chemicals and vaccines play.
As for me, after the second video I no longer watch what they want to show me. I tell them to get that shit away from me. The second video stuck with me the rest of the day.
I have to say though that of the 10 boys and 2 girls working for me now every one of them is based. They will make a formidable army if they ever get off their asses.
The key element here is "ever get off their asses." I see that at every business I deal with.
I do not want someone with dulled down humanity to be the one who makes decisions for anyone on fixed income or struggling to get by. I really don't give a rats butt why they ended up that way or how based they might be. (And if based doesn't include at least minimal thoughtfulness for others, then I don't want anyone based either.)
I think at least some of it was they were raised to be thoughtless and self centered. If you're old (I am) and are struggling to put, say, a 50 lb bag of something in your car, the young ones walk right past. Anyone asking if you need help is guaranteed to be older.
