However, I do think that the two conjoined triangles of this star are indeed intended to convey something akin to "As Above, So Below". This is all hermetic, alchemic, gnostic stuff, and indeed is even a lot older than that (Egyptian and then Babylonian before that).
And also I should add that I do consider him to be a charlatan, a bounder, a shyster, etc. I think he did most of this for personal gain, and/or tradecraft stuff (I think it's fairly established that he was British Intelligence).
