It's BS on a macro level at the moment. There are huge benefits to people who are off the grid who don't want any sort of reliance on government controlled electricity. Windmills are great and incredibly easy for the beginner to set up.

However, to power a whole country's power grid? I don't think so. Not until there are more efficient options. I don't know why we're so afraid of nuclear power tbh
