Contrary to what people assume, farming is NOT a full time job. Some days tasks can last all day, sure, but the average day goes up before sunrise for breakfast, off to the morning tasks until lunch, then it's nap until the sun gets ready to set to finish the rest of the jobs (if any). The reason for this is to sleep off the hottest part of the day.
That's not to say it's not hard work, it is, but from what I have researched, far far better than the current 40+ hour 9-5 bullshit.
Damn right! And I am working every day to do this. And it's planting time!

Also, the scale of work for food just to feed a family is not that huge.
