If you're going down that route, might as well say we should give up laptops, cell phones, and anything else with a lithium-ion battery. Those are much more widespread and filled with plastics and stuff. Should probably give up plastic grocery bags and plastic bottled drinks as well. Those are also much more prevalent than electric cars, and probably will always be since you're saying electric cars can't be adopted by everyone.
