That is incredible. 2,500 km of tunnel! The longest expedition was just 40 km. There is no way smugglers would not still be using those tunnels. It's "forbidden" to map them.

Those tunnels are a huge security risk, yet the government (local and country) just looks the other way

A gigantic set of tunnels right next to a port city. That's a smugglers wet dream. No one would ever see what you're bringing in and out. You can't tell me the authorities wouldn't be aware of how easy it would be for smugglers to take full advantage of that tunnel system.

It's even bigger BS that they say the 700 mile one in Ukraine was only used to smuggle "cigarettes". Yeah right. That's not the main good they go underground for and anyone with a brain knows it.

If you look at the demographics of Ukraine it's crazy how fast the population has been dropping there for decades. They claim it's out-migration or it's a low birth rate, but Ukraine's low birth rate doesn't make sense when the women start having kids so young. Yet somehow all the kids keep disappearing and everyone acts like they're not. "What kids?"

Ukraine, where total fertility (a very low 1.1 in 2001), was one of the world's lowest, shows that there is more than one pathway to lowest-low fertility. The women remained traditional and gave birth very young. That should raise the population, yet somehow Ukraine crashed like a rock anyway.

They've KNOWN something is deeply wrong in Ukraine. Young, traditional mothers should be causing the population to soar, but somehow it never happens.

Hospital officials say these gruesome images reveal nothing except the biological waste from dozens of routine abortions. But relatives of women who gave birth at Hospital No. 6 say they are part of growing evidence suggesting something sinister: newborns taken from their mothers, disappearing in a region known for trafficking in harvested organs and human tissue.

"It's really hard to find the truth," said Zinaida Dromashko, whose daughter-in-law, Svetlana Puzikova, was too upset to talk about her missing baby. "It's like you strike your head against the brick wall. You strike more and more, but the wall stays untouched."

It happens often in Ukraine and just gets swept under the rug.

Allegations about stolen babies first surfaced in Kharkiv about three years ago. Mothers of two newborns complained that hospital staff took away their babies immediately after birth, later claiming that they were born dead.

The babies are literally stolen and the mothers are not allowed the bodies.

The case was closed, despite questions that kept nagging at the babies' relatives: Why were so many of the bodies missing vital organs? If their children weren't in the grave, where did they go?

Even more disturbing, Ms. Vermot-Mangold said, is the evidence that infants were treated so casually in Ukraine that the true number of children missing across the country may never be known. "Whatever the number of disappearances, just one case is one too many," she said.

They steal your baby right after it's born and then tell you it died and refuse to give you the body saying, "This is for your own good". When parents protest they get no justice.

After visiting Hospital No. 6. and hearing the story of mothers who were never allowed to see their babies, Ms. Vermot-Mangold met with the regional prosecutor who first investigated the complaints. The prosecutor did not give clear answers about how his office handled the issue, she said, and did not offer much reassurance about the "many contradictions and irregularities" of the cases.

The parliamentarian did not speculate about what might have happened to the missing children.

Ms. Dromashko said she still hopes that her daughter-in-law's child might be alive, maybe sold for an illegal adoption.

Stolen as newborns and sold. Those poor children.

But when his small group of activists visited clinics in Kharkiv, Donetsk and other Ukrainian cities last year, they found evidence of an underground market in fetus parts.

Babies keep mysteriously disappearing or dying, but authorities never can find out why no matter how hard upset families push for answers.

You have a country with tunnels everywhere. They are everywhere in the Ukraine. It's a smugglers paradise.
