For Christians, Jesus is God, the third person of the one and eternal Holy Trinity. Also, according to the gospels, Mary conceived of the baby Jesus in her womb by the Holy Spirit, so she is his mother, the mother of Jesus’s inseparable human nature taken on to save us from our sins. This is what the title “Mother of God” is referring to.
