I notice a disturbing incidence of illiteracy in most social media posting (not here, so much). Often garbled meaning and inability to use the concept of a sentence. Like a transcript of a Valley Girl's monologue. Maybe that's it: people have forgotten how to write, and think it is only a matter of verbal transcription.
I think this ties into the increasing tendency for people to resort to videos for argumentative backup, instead of written references. Videos are terribly time-consuming, since one can read text about 4-5 times faster than listen to spoken words. Videos also get lost in narcissism and dramatic distraction. I keep thinking it is a regression from the written word to the spoken word. People would rather go for days waiting for an opportune moment to have a phone conversation, than simply write a letter and put it in the mail (or e-mail). I am not encouraged by the popular use of technology to become mentally lazy or unintelligent.
