The wordiness is I think a kind of humblebrag for them. They want to show people that their thoughts are so complex and intellectual, and the excessive wordiness in their minds conveys that. This is also probably a product of their age, which is usually high school or college, when people are being trained to overstuff their language to make a required word count. When people get older and start working in the workforce, brevity and clarity become more important.
