The dragging death of Byrd in Jasper, Texas in 1998.
The media was completely lying to build up a story. They sold a story of an innocent man that was a random victim of white supremacy.
What they didn't tell everyone is that Byrd and the two men that killed him KNEW each other very well. They had all served several months together in prison, lived in barracks style housing and marched to 3-meals a day together, had work details together and lived together for months. There were several arguments between them in prison and there were threats exchanged.
The two men KNEW where Byrd lived, and they went looking for him after they got out of prison. The Jasper thing was a prison fight that happened on the outside.
Due to the "racist incident", Jasper, Texas has named a park in Byrd's honor... and erected a statue of him. All 3 of those men were total scumbags. Not one was a decent human being. Press knew this, but lied to sell the story.
The two men that dragged Byrd were white supremacists, and they were bad men.
Byrd was black, but he was equally racist for his part and was a bad man.
You wouldn't want to be around any of them, because they were all violent.
The thing that bothered me is that the press KNEW the story. It was hard to miss. It's not like the characters served prison time years or decades earlier. They had each just gotten out of prison only a few weeks or months earlier.
It wasn't a case of reporting "news"... but instead selling newspapers and viewership to "news programs". A prison fight on the outside between three scumbags doesn't sell newspapers. They told a fake story that inflamed racism across the nation... while the news industry made money.

Yup, and now the racial divide is greater than ever...

I think that inflaming racism is the MSM goal in that case, and money is just icing on the cake.
