I'm not sure if I would agree it's just an attention-grabbing operation. They're likely dredging out a lot of really bad characters and removing them while continuing to gather evidence for crimes against humanity.

On the other hand, the apparent fake news-induced hysteria, whipping so many of the most brainwashed idiots into a ludicrous little frenzy - this when they probably could not have found Ukraine on a map a few months ago - will be a good environment to release some of the horrific truth to them. That will jar them out of their media-induced trance a bit, I suppose.
