Specifically, 5HTP is a precursor to serotonin, and serotonin is usually increased with many (but not all) antidepressant medications. Taking them together can risk something called serotonin syndrome, which is agonizing and potentially deadly. It’s usually at higher doses when this occurs, but it’s a risk worth knowing about.
