The most common form of slavery is without a doubt, debt slavery in nearly every possible aspect. Businesses like Walmart profit around 130 billion each year but yet Walmart and seemingly every other business still choose to seek insane amounts of profit on items we are ripped off on by being the consumer. I have seen proof that Walmart sometimes profits in excess of 2,000% off of items sold.
If you go to a used car lot and buy a car for $12,000 with a down payment of $3,000, it is very likely that the used car lot spent less than $3,000 in obtaining the car. This is a fairly common practice with them. I can only imagine how much excess profit dealerships make off of brand new cars.
It can be argued that businesses need profit to pay their bills, employees, etc but when there are items being sold in the range of 2,000% profit then maybe there should be some sort of restriction of the allowed percentage of profit on items sold. Years ago I looked up some shipping invoices from Walmart by using the stickers on the box from where it was exported and that's when things got interesting yet infuriating.
It was probably 6 or 7 years ago maybe, a 32in TV being sold for $169 was part of a shipment of many of the same TV model where Walmart paid a little over $9 per TV. The place that made the TV only charged a little over $9 per TV but then by time it got to the store shelves it was $169 plus the endless government tax theft.
I understand how it all works because in my 20s I worked in a ship yard, I worked in a warehouse that did importing and exporting, I've worked in a distribution center warehouse as well. There is cost involved in getting a shipment from the shipyards then having it delivered to a distribution center which then delivers it to local stores or across the country to other distribution centers which then deliver to local stores but that doesn't even come close to justifying the price hikes seen on store shelves.
Businesses find endless tax loopholes while steadily increasing prices of things. When it comes to a TV, phone, computer, etc, we can at least choose to say hell no but unfortunately unless a person has their own farm at home then they have to accept being ripped off at the supermarket. The various types of slavery have been going on for thousands of years and there doesn't seem to ever be an end in sight.
To ever make changes that benefits everyone would require a large enough portion of the population to join together to fix it and that sadly will never happen because far too many people are simply too selfish to give a shit. We then have government and media constantly trying to keep people against each other as well. It's a fucked up thing but there doesn't seem to be any solution to it in the foreseeable future.
