Apparently, this was the BMJ's way of discrediting the idea of randomized controlled trials. This study is a tool to respond to anyone saying that the covid vax did not go through a true RCT. Their analogy is this parachute study, where they can argue that doing such a study of parachute efficacy would be inhumane, in that it would almost certainly lead to death for some participants.
