I've noticed a lot of chatter on the wires lately about microplastics being a problem.

No mention of the specific sources, How about face masks ?

and this generalised chatter is just a cover for inhaling microscopic plastic dust from frequent use of these face diapers ?

Yeah, blaming the masks is probably just another deflection from the guilty party. People have been wearing masks like that for decades in hospitals without issue.
