Hopefully this guy is guilty and gets what's coming to him. But now I'm starting to wonder, with all these arrests for possession of child porn lately (and there have been a few, hopefully all those people are actually guilty). What is there to stop corrupt officials and prosecutor from deciding that an easy way to get someone out of their way would be by going to a judge they control for a warrant, seizing their electronic devices, and then planting whatever they want on there. After that, how would an innocent person go about defending themselves? If our system still function, there would be checks and balances to prevent this and you would expect most officials to be honest. However, if enough of them are corrupt, it would be very easy to set someone up for this kind of crime. I'm not saying it's happening yet, but I do wonder what there is to stop the corrupt officials from doing this? There are other crimes you could setup someone for, but this one seems almost the easiest as you don't require a victim who could be questioned and might accidentally tell the truth, and all the evidence is electronic which means if you get a good program, it could be easily produced with the click of a button. Time stamps can be faked. On a regular hard drive, you can still do some read/write analysis but on a solid state drive, I'm not sure what analysis you could do to prove what was written and when.
