After his GF Cathriona took her own life by overdosing on medications prescribed to Jim, he retreated into a shell and spiraled. The GF had publicly accused him of gaslighting her in regards to 3 STDs that he had (but denied) and transmitted to her, causing her much grief and suffering. She took her own life due to his denial of having anything to do with it, even after she found receipts and medicines from his doctors that confirmed he had them. Then when she continued to rail against his lies, he dumped her and said she was being too needy or something like that. Soon she ended herself and her mother (who the daughter had confided in) sued him, I believe for wrongful death.

He's been going through his own personal hell ever since, in my opinion.
