Often, their numbers for % of population being gay are pulled out of thin air, but when they are backed up by data, the data is also often manipulated to show what they want it to show (that there are more of them than there really are). For example, one study that was often used as the basis for their wild over-estimation would flag a woman as gay if on a questionnaire she admitted to ever kissing another woman even if she identified as straight and never dated or did anything else with a woman. Basically, any wrong answer in the questionnaire would make you gay regardless of overall status or circumstance.

And the result of their work and the promotions of homosexuality by the main stream media shows. Even the media admits that most people wildly over-estimate how many gay people there actually are. Given how they push them in the media and popular culture, it should be no surprise:
