Easter is the ancient festival of the Spring goddess Eostre, over time replaced by the Christian Paschal month, a celebration of the resurrection of Jesus. Eostre herself was a kind of pastiche of other - even more ancient - dawn goddesses. People celebrating the end of winter and the return of fertility has much deeper roots than only two thousand years of Christianity.
