There must be a huge rise in alopecia cases expected, why else has another obscure ailment suddenly entered the Overton Window ? Perhaps it's a side effect of something ?

Is it obscure because you never heard the term before? Alopecia as a general term js used to describe all sorts of baldness, and I assume you've known some people who lost their hair.
