I had a friend in the very early years of elementary school, a boy, who always wanted to hang out with the girls. We didn't mind because at that age you're pretty much asexual. Found out much later that he was gay, but he said he loved having all the girls as friends, and we liked him because he was very nice, and not rough. So not sure about nature vs. nurture in all cases.
