I'm open to being proven wrong, but I'm not buying it.

Why would a young man leave behind his whole life, and his girlfriend / fiance, and basically go into hiding for 6 years? He was definitely a Bernie Bro, why would he do this for the DS?

My theory is he was the source for WikiLeaks. He got shot when the DS found out it was him. Then the family was threatened against speaking out.

It's not a theory. Assange all but confirmed that Rich was a WikiLeaks source in an interview he did shortly after his death
