I grew up in a similar situation and my dad was a homeless alcoholic for 25 yrs during half of my childhood and much of my adult life until a stroke and cancer took away his abilities. I know prayer works because 25 yrs of prayer brought my dad to (as a humble repentant man to Jesus, and ; 2 Peter 3:9 The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.
