I'm not a sports fan. I prefer to play sports, rather than watch someone else play, however I do have some sympathy for professional athletes. These poor folks were typically hand carried through our education process and never required to learn any intellectual disciplines. The lack of research acumen is to be expected from a large proportion of these folks because their entire focus has been to master one physical discipline. At this level of specialization, it is expected that sacrifices in other developmental areas have to be made to compete on the world stage. Too often, we castigate professional athletes for making the choice to pursue such a singular course, but put yourself in their shoes. If you had a professional level aptitude to one particular discipline that could make you famous and wealthy, what would you sacrifice to succeed? Partying in HS and College? Vacations and personal relationships? The dedication that borders on obsession is commendable for mastery of a discipline. It is a gamble to be sure, but it can be seen as brave or foolhardy, depending on level of success. The tragedy is that many of their entire lives have been or will be destroyed by a vicious lie promoted by elitists. It is horrific and will undoubtedly cause some terrible outcomes from these people when their hopes and dreams are obliterated by malicious intent. Regardless of how you feel about their life choices, these people are victims and it is a tragedy.
