Don't care about all that woke stuff but environmental concerns is something I've often thought about with my job. There is so much waste created packaging things for shipment that goes straight into the dumpster. We're a small business and the amount of trash we throw out installing stuff at a job site is insane. Then I think about scaling that up to these global scales and wonder how long we can continue creating so much waste just so the expensive stuff arrives in as close to perfect condition as possible so the rich guy won't get pissed and demand a replacement.
Sounds like a great entrepreneurial opportunity to figure out a use for all that waste. Is any of it recyclable?
Not really. We recycle the cardboard and paper stuff but it's the styrofoam you just have to toss. Very rarely have we been able to unload that to customers moving or to their moving company if they're on site with us. That's why I love installing the cheap shit made in town. They just vacuum seal them in a plastic bag like my weedman so there is minimal waste lol.
Styrofoam can be used in cement to make it more durable and lighter. Ground up
Almost all of our waste can be safely remade or reused. People have come up with ways to help the planet heal, but most just get no coverage. A lot of it is considered fringe science, but much has been proven. All of a sudden they shut up about the gulf oil spill, too many people were stepping in and actually fixing things. Frequency helped a lot.
Yeah absolutely. My friend used to do cad drawings for a shutter company. Sales people would try and submit changes to the measurements they fucked up only to be told it's too late because it's already on the boat from China. If they didn't realize it was a bad measure and only learned once the installer is on site then guess what? That window is gonna be empty for a few weeks because those boats don't move very fast. All to undercut the people who sell the more expensive stuff made in Mexico.
