Because it demonstrably is. Ask someone what they think the shape of the world is, and their most common answer will be "I believe ..." This isn't coincidence.
Why, say when continuously traveling, do objects suddenly appear on the horizon, grow larger and more detailed as you approach, be at their largest and most detailed when you're right next to them, and become less detailed and grow shorter as you go away, until they disappear below the horizon?
