You would think US notes being valid on any debt being guaranteed but it appears you can sanction your money from being used to pay yourself.

ie. Taxpayers are on the hook for 1/2 billion due to debt that we won’t accept payment for? Maybe? It’s all nuts to me now.

Sure, but the fact that "it wasn't paid", no matter what passed beforehand, can make great politicised news articles that Russia bad for reneging.

So we pay, and they pay in reputation. A win-win.
