Red foxes are scavengers and very routine. They follow their routes looking for snacks and generally mind their own business.
This past winter I observed a red fox while ice fishing and he definitely had a route. We watched him for a good hour or so. He trotted around checking his favorite places.
Eventually, we called him over with an injured squirrel sound. Easy to do on a lake because sound travels so well. He checked for fish scraps at some of our holes, pissed on one of my tip-ups and then trotted away, back to his routine.
I'm sure he wasn't rabid or anything but red foxes are really small. Like a small dog. You could punt it 30 feet if you wanted to.
The only thing I was upset about is my vehicle smelled like fox pee all the way home.
I definitely think this is comms.
