You don't need to run a background check on someone running multiple billion dollar companies when they've already got govt clearances, not to mention any of the hundreds of background checks you would have to undergo just to get to that point which he's clearly passed
It reeks of comms, like to get on the board and be trusted they need to run the background check, which is really "how loyal is he to our cause?"
A lot of triggers will go off, if someone with a TS or higher clearance; goes to an effort to hide a suspect activity (such as drug use, homosexuality, crossdressing, etc).
But, if they do it out in the open (like on a live recorded session that is broadcast to the public), there isn't anything they can be blackmailed with. That's the big fear, blackmail and extortion.
