Yahweh was a "winged serpent" and the Canaanite god of copper. He disallowed worship of "false idols", not "ALL Idols". The "Copper Serpent" was a true idol.
Copperheads have fangs that release a hemolytic venom, a venom that causes the breakdown of red blood cells...
Hm, this is sidetracking a bit from the discussion, but I’m very deeply troubled by what you're saying, friend. In reading the words of the Bible all my life, I have never seen “winged serpent” and “Canaanite god of copper” as descriptors for Yahweh. Even the above video says (and rightly so) that the serpent is the symbol of evil, so why push that Yahweh, the God of the Bible, is such a thing?
If you’re familiar with Canaanite worship, the rituals undertaken by its followers involved horrendous acts, including but not restricted to child sacrifice, orgies, and idol worship. Why does the “winged serpent” you describe then expressly forbid all these things, even making them punishable by death?
And on the topic of just restricting people from worshipping “FALSE” idols, there’s a big problem with that assessment. Exodus 20:3, the very first of the Ten Commandments, says this: “You shall have no other gods before Me.” Friend, Yahweh does not say, “You shall have no false gods before me.” He says “You shall have no other gods before me.” Verses 4-5 of that chapter continues with the second commandment: “4 "You shall not make for yourself an idol, or any likeness of what is in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the water under the earth.
5 You shall not worship them or serve them; for I, the LORD your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children, on the third and the fourth generations of those who hate Me.” (Exodus 20:4-5) It is indeed a harsh commandment, and one might assume that the giver of these commandments is a God who is also entirely harsh. But verse 6 is such a wonderful reminder of God’s unfailing goodness: “but showing lovingkindness to thousands, to those who love Me and keep My commandments.” (Exodus 20:6) My friend, Yahweh is no winged serpent or some immoral Canaanite god. He deserves our praise and worship, not blasphemy.
And if you’re curious about the “copper serpent,” that’s yet another discrepancy. During the period post-Exodus, the people of Israel were testing God. They grumbled, complained, and shoved His goodness aside as something not to be grateful for. On one instance (Numbers 21:4-9), they grew impatient along their journey and grumbled against Yahweh, who, far from being a “winged serpent” and a Canaanite deity, was sustaining the people every day with quail and with manna. Their judgment was that of “fiery serpents,” which killed many among the congregation. When the people came to Moses and asked for forgiveness from God, His answer was for them to construct a serpent out of bronze, (not copper!!!) that whoever was bitten by one of those fiery serpents would look upon this bronze serpent so they would be healed. It was not created as an idol to be worshipped (though much later it became exactly that, a snare to many Israelites who turned pagan in the days preceding King Hezekiah… it was even given a name, Nehushtan, which roughly translates to “that bronze thing”), but as a sign and reminder of God’s grace and faithfulness.
There’s more. Yahweh does not ever describe himself in terms of a metallic substance. Yes, Jesus will come back and rule the nations of the world with a rod of iron, but to reduce who God is to a metallic substance is, in short, to make him no longer God.
Friend, I urge you to read the Bible for yourself and discover who the true Yahweh is. He calls for all to come to salvation by believing in His Son, Jesus Christ, who came to this world as both fully man and fully God, born of a virgin, who lived a perfect life, died on a cross (Good Friday!!!) and rose again from the grave (not Easter, but Resurrection Sunday!!!) for the sins of the world. By repenting from your sins, confessing Jesus as Lord, believing in your heart that God the Father raised him from the dead, and living a life that reflects God’s goodness and Spirit in you, you will be saved.
If you’d like to talk more, feel free to message me here. God bless!
I would recommend to be a bit more careful about quoting from Numbers, Levitcus and Deuteronomy.
The moral lesson here is observance of the law. And my goodness, from honoring the possessions of others to regulation of every tiny detail is quite a stretch to go.
Think blessing and curses. It was written by the Priests with a perfect reason to keep people under their thumb. Just know that all these books were eh ... Lost, and found in the time of Jehosiah (If I am not mixing the names up) in some remote corner of the temple .....
So, at best, the time for the birth of these books goes to the 7th century BCE, and need not reflect the true and the facts, but merely that which the priestclass in its pursuit of exclusivity, found to be useful. (See also Ezekiel, Nehemiah and Ezra. These books contain the same moral lesson of observance or blood and guts you die horribly)
Take also careful note of the major difference between the 10-tribe Kingdom and the 3 tribe kingdom (Judah, Benjamin, Levites)
Between the books mentioned and the other prophets ..... quite a stark contrast ...
This leads to the supposition those books are political documents in the first place. When laws abound so does corruption.
And behold, that is exactly what Jesus railed against in relation to the Sadducees and, especially, the Pharisees: making Gods law mute by the imposition of human teachings. It is quite clear these have been incorporated in the OT.
“You shall have no other gods before Me.” What are your thoughts on who the other gods were and their rank/ status? Other (winged) Seraphim? Lesser divinities?
I never grasped how YHWH went from being a lessor (small g) Canaanite god of metallurgy to BIG G God of the Hebrews. My guess is the reach of his mind control expanded as he grew stronger. Prolly that diet of virgins and burnt livestock.
I have read the bible...several versions as well as Torah and other old writings. I believe Jesus Christ is the son of the true God,... not the blood thirsty vengeful yhwh of the old testament. Who do you think Jesus was referring to in John 8:44? ...thoughts? I'm thinking that among the 1/3 cast down were a few Seraphim.
I think so. In South America the "winged Serpent" was Godly Dragon "Quetzalcoatl"... among the Aborigines, "The Rainbow Serpent"...all Seraphim...those survivors cast down to earth when their home planet was destroyed.

🤯 dang. Most vaccinated country takes on a new meaning.
But also…does that mean God planned this if this verse was descriptive of current times?

Interesting ..copperheads are most common in Pennsylvania. The researcher Liu Bing was at university of Pittsburgh in Pennsylvania.
Also the comment winged serpent reminded me of the Qing dynasty symbol. Any connections ?
