I believe smaller states would better for the republic overall though
"States" are not the answer. Local governments are really all that matters. Even Rhode Island is too big to be making any meaningful decisions for the large number of people that live in Rhode Island. The power of the State is too much. It needs to be reduced substantially in power to virtually nothing. The Federal government needs to be reduced to nothing more than "common defense" and "treaties" (international relations) as was intended. Internal affairs are not their purview.
Even within international relations their powers need to be directly beholden to We The People at all times, and no more secrets of operation. There is no such thing as a "secret" that We The People can't know. The whole idea of "operations" in other countries are based on fraud. Every single operation that I have looked at over the past 150 years (and I have done a LOT of investigation) had nothing to do with national security, even though they are all done under that guise.
We The People are about to grow up. We can be a direct part of the conversation of how we deal with any foreign threats (if any actually exist at all, which I don't think they ever have).
