I agree, Fifth and Sixth grade are the right time to start this. Both boys and girls at this time will be seeing some changes in their bodies, so preparation needs to begin somewhere. Anything other than the basic facts of life doesn't need to part of that preparation, IMHO, with the exception of explaining why abstinence is the best option, from both a scientific and moral standpoint.
