Elon isn't so much DS as he is driven by his own logic and reason, so much so that he may be influenced to inadvertently (*or otherwise") aide in the Luciferian agenda through his AI/net/human interface technology.
His ideals may in fact believe in free speech and genuinely want a free and open town square platform of discussion but one cannot ignore the fact that one of Elon's largest investors, giving him the funding ability to possibly bully Twitter around, is George Soros.
I believe the theory that he may have been but is no longer, may be the best theory for this all to make sense.
You may be correct, but I am always suspect of beliefs.
Beliefs change with the facts.
I believe one thing one day and then blam! The truth comes out about something that totally changes my beliefs (opinion). Whereas, the truth was, is and always will be true even if no one believes it.
