I think the plan, and it is a legit one, is to at the very least get the party in, which unfortunately means compromised. Then if they are who we think they are, the next go around primary them.
It works in the sense of taking small steps instead of pinning all your hopes on someone who is a long shot. Then you lose the seat outright.
