Arrival is interesting because of how it deals with language. It essentially conveys a truth and a lie. The truth is about how language strongly forms the way we think, the lie is that language is magical, and can defy reality. The lie is what progressives think language is, a magical reality altering weapon. But if language does not reflect reality it is useless, or at worst it can become full of lies that kill future generations.
You should read the book, The Four Agreements, by don Miguel Ruiz. It talks about language and is a book full of much wisdom. Words can be used as black magic without us even knowing. We were born into a system of it. Ever wonder why we call it โspelling?โ
I've read that one a few times. It does contain some truth and revelations in it, but with the exception of God created miracles, a human uttering words do not create anything. Words can be the spark to further action that creates change in the world, but uttering sounds does not create reality. That is how morons think. "Words are violence." "That speech changed the world." "That spell made her fall in love with me."
Don't get me wrong, clear communication is important, but they should reflect reality as it was, is, or how it could be.
