The following is a poem by John Newton(Amazing Grace) that he had put on his gravestone. It was never a song until recently the Chorus was added https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YyumcWLZDjc
I saw one hanging on a tree
In agony and blood
Who fixed His loving eyes on me
As near His cross I stood
And never till my dying breath
Will I forget that look
It seemed to charge me with His death
Though not a word He spoke
My conscience felt and owned the guilt
And plunged me in despair
I saw my sins His blood had spilt
And helped to nail Him there
But with a second look He said
"I freely all forgive
This blood is for your ransom paid
I died that you might live"
Forever etched upon my mind
Is the look of Him who died
The Lamb I crucified
And now my life will sing the praise
Of pure atoning grace
That looked on me and gladly took my place
Thus while His death my sin displays
For all the world to view
Such is the mystery of grace
It seals my pardon too
With pleasing grief and mournful joy
My spirit now is filled
That I should such a life destroy
Yet live by Him I killed
Forever etched upon my mind
Is the look of Him who died
The Lamb I crucified
And now my life will sing the praise
Of pure atoning grace
That looked on me and gladly took my place
Forever etched upon my mind
Is the look of Him who died
The Lamb I crucified
And now my life will sing the praise
Of pure atoning grace
That looked on me and gladly took my place
Nothing more calculated to fill a person with guilt than this !
You do realise that he pagan religion before Jesus had a lamb of God saviour of the world that died for our sins? Called Mithras..
You have to do the work yourself. Jesus did not give a free ticket that you present at death...Jesus sent me...you must work at knowing your Self. Learning to love your fellow man..whether from Iraq Saudi Israel etc. we are all sons of God as Jesus himself pointed out . No hate no envy no greed etc
Matthew 22:14 “For many are called, but few are chosen.” God did that.
“Repentance grows as faith grows. Do not make any mistake about it; repentance is not a thing of days and weeks, a temporary penance to be got over as fast as possible! No; it is the grace of a lifetime, like faith itself. God's little children repent, and so do the young men and the fathers. Repentance is the inseparable companion of faith.”
Charles H. Spurgeon
Thank God that Spurgeon has consulted with God and His Word about this and shared what he learned with us about repentance. What a great companion consideration to go along with Resurrection Sunday.
I need to dedicate more reading of his sermons as one would be hard pressed to find this message today.
