Interesting about this device, if you do a search for Troxler 3340 and do a custom date to omit this story, they are reported stolen many times, in multiple countries. Earlier this year from Ireland, 2021 in Canada, 2019 in Mississippi, 2017, 2014, 2007, 2005, and more too. What caught my attention was the model number starting with 33. Can't find anything from the manufacturer regarding a 3340, only 3430 and 3440, so maybe just an older model. But the 3340 model specifically gets stolen a lot. Maybe nothing. We'll see how big of a story they try to make about it and whether I delve any further. In the states, one must be licensed to own one as a nuclear device and if it's stolen they have to report it, so you can find multiple reports like this from the US NRC gov website.
Okay, now that IS interesting. I could understand a single article making the typo, but considering I've already looked at a dozen articles going back to 2005, all referencing the 3340 being stolen, I'd say that's NOT a typo. Let us know if you find anything else, and I will dig some more later when I have time to sit down.

I did some digging 3340 never existed https://web.archive.org/web/20100406000658/http://www.troxlerlabs.com/PRODUCTS/PRODLIT/brochures.shtml
Or doesn't publicly exist
And the press release that the news article is referencing states its a 3440 model https://www.ahs.dep.pa.gov/NewsRoomPublic/articleviewer.aspx?id=22099&typeid=1
Then in the same press release say the image is of a 3340 model even though the image has a model woth the model number on is stating its a 3440.
