Fortunately, parents pushed back hard on this, and the CA department of education was forced to walk back this policy. However, yesterday, I found out that San Diego Unified's new superintendent, Lamont Jackson, is going to introduce a version of "equity learning" by dumbing down the advanced math and science courses. Sigh.
SDUSD parents are already worn out from fighting the mask mandate (we won only one month ago) and the vaccine mandates (still a pending fight) for our kids. San Diego Unified is the same district that sent teachers to the homeless shelters for the illegal border crossers so the immigrants could get in person instruction, while simultaneously keeping the schools closed to in-person learning for SD residents and requiring all the district's children to do distance learning. Last year, it was a fight to get the schools to open (which didn't happen until the school year was almost over!) Now we have to fight to protect our kids ability to get a decent education.
It is unbelievable to me that every parent hasn't taken off the blinders yet.
Last year, the California department of education tried to introduce "equity math," which meant that children were not allowed to take advanced math classes anymore because it was unfair to the children who did not take advanced math: https://www.breitbart.com/politics/2021/05/05/californias-equity-math-rejects-existence-of-naturally-gifted-students-all-children-capable-at-highest-levels/.

My prayers for ya'll. Every day I am thankful my kids are grown.
