Rehabilitation worked better when inmates were put to work.
They were given skills that could keep them on the right path.
Then something something "basic human rights" activists made that change and now rehabilitation has definitely dropped.
And yes, if you are proven beyond a shadow of a doubt that you committed a violent crime, you should be permanently removed from society one way or another.
However, false convictions must be paid in return though.
It's never good when someone suffers life in prison only to be exonerated post-mortem with new evidence like the advent of DNA.
