My daughter is 11. I monitor her every move on the internet, in her social life, and her schooling. I can assure you, IF any pedo slips thru my nets, [they] will be handled accordingly...by me and not the "just-us system."
My kids have a while before getting to that age, but I do kind of wonder if there is a balance between keeping the kids safe and respecting their privacy. I haven't decided what's the right action here, but monitoring their entire social life -- are they okay with things like this?
I'm still trying to decide on this matter before they hit that age. I've already decided that before they get to college, I have to know their location at all times. But with respect to internet and social media -- I am not sure. I haven't had to deal with this problem yet.
At this moment, the kids don't really have their own accounts and are not on social media.
My way is, "If you're a child under my care, it's my rules." There's no such thing as "privacy" when it comes to keeping your kids safe. If that means you "invade" that "privacy" by monitoring all transactions, then so be it. It's for they're own personal safety. It also helps to train them physically in ways to protect themselves.
They're not always gonna like your decisions, but that just means you're doing your job correctly, as a parent. We don't spend so much time raising them, just to see them hurt/injured...or worse.
I'd rather they be a little upset at me for a relatively short period of time for being protective, than to have them hate me for not doing enough, or even not have them around any longer.

No right of privacy until they are 18...period...they are your responsibility until 18...period! How is this even a question?
