I was a working mother who nursed three babies until they were a year old. I had a career in tech for major car companies and later an energy company (1884, 1994 and 1996) I found it easier. I would nurse them at 6 am, pump at 10am and 2pm then nurse again 6pm and 10pm. When they were young and had to be fed at night I pulled them into our bed and got them latched on then dozed off/on. When they ran out one side their movement and sound would rouse me and I would rollover and latch them back on the other side. By this time I was awake enough to realize when they were done and placed them back in the cradle. Nursing helped me deal with having to leave them, was healthier for both of us and cheaper too! I lost 70lbs while nursing the first one and about 30 with the there two. They stopped pacifiers at about 4 months and therefore we only had one who had braces. She inherited he Dad's teeth. What can I say? They had no thumb sucking or blanket/animal attachment either. Nursing made made it easy for others to feed the baby. No need to mix formula. Just freeze it after you pump. When someone is ready to feed the baby they warmed it in a hot glass of water. I'm a firm believer that because they were exposed to what ever foods I ate through my milk, they refused 99% of baby food except rice cereal We ended up grinding our own baby food each meal because even spicy foods were already part of the menu for them. I can remember seeing the frozen milk lined up in the freezer and the fact that you actually saw colors in the shade of the milk surprised me. I later determined the colors corresponded to what I ate. A lite indication of red might be spaghetti or tacos. Green lots of veggies. Think about it. No more picky eaters because there already learned how to eat broccoli!
At the time i was nursing we were told it helped the baby's brain development. I got lucky. I have a teacher, an engineer and a microbiologist for kids. God made boobs, tips, Cha chas, ta tas or breasts for this purpose. I realize not everyone can do so but everyone should try. The hardest thing is getting started and when the baby is about four months old. Make sure you also offer water and your babies will grow up loving it too.
Good job! I loved breastfeeding and knew my babies were getting the nutrition they needed.
