Land use has always been an issue with so-called "renewables". I once looked at the solar plant in Ivanpah and compared it to the largest UK power station. I didn't use "rated outputs" because they are misleading. I considered real outputs over a twelve month period. This is the comparison Images from Google Maps.
The, originally coal-fired, power station is in the bottom left hand corned and the rest of the image is the number of Ivanpahs needed to provide the same output.
Basically, one power station needed around 180 square miles of Nevada desert to provide as much electricity. If you are not in a desert you can multiply that number by a factor. Also, Ivanpah uses gas to get it warmed up in the morning. Apparently, it goes cold overnight. Who knew?
I once calculated how much land would be required to supply the US total energy needs with wind turbines. It took an area of around eight times the size of Texas!
No need to believe my figures. Do your own calculations.
That ignores mining infrastructure. Go look at the North Antelope Rochelle mine from satellite
No, it is called a Wyoming.
Coal mining can take up a lot of space particularly if it is opencast. Fracking sites can be very compact when in operation. Rare earth mines can be huge and serious polluters as well. They are required for generator magnets.
He doesn't have 1/10 the silver they need to build them. And if they start buying silver, they price will rocket up,and they will have even less.
No, with higher silver prices more people mine silver faster
That's 5-10 Years to open more mines/ projects to get significant production.
You arent opening new mines, you are mining in existing mines faster or re-opening shuttered mines - most silver production is as a byproduct of copper, nickel, and lead mining, not dedicated silver mining, as mining silver for silver is pretty unprofitable
Saw an interview with Keith Newmar, said they can't ramp up production very fast, were taking about a lot of silver, not 25%. Labor and fuel prices are also rising fast.
The US cant ramp up production fast, but when Kazachstan can offer 15 USD an hour for as many hours as you can work, you have a different animal
Ok, that is only a bit bigger than Death Valley... why is that an issue?
