I grew up in a rural county 35 miles from a capitol city. 30 years ago our county had 11 large dairy farms, we could buy milk from a local dairyman, today there are 0 dairy farms and 11 new subdivisions. People get their milk from a Food Lion. Around here at least, local farms are a thing of the past. Corn fields that used to grow silage, now are full of houses or are getting reclaimed by trees.
All part of their plan. Also the devaluing of the profession of farming. We celebrate MLK, George Floyd, Juneteenth, Women's Suffridge, but not the farmer.
My small town is on that road. They're building housing units in the field behind my house that was once a cornfield. All around me they're building apartments. Lots and lots of apartments, all on land that was once farmed. We're a small town, I'm really not sure why the sudden need for all these apartments. They're tearing down forests to put up a new park (at least it's for parks and not more apartments - so far), never mind that we already have around 10 parks that nobody goes to as it is. Our water table is already dangerously low, the farmers are having a hard time with that. Extra housing will just create more strain on limited resources. Schools are already at max capacity. We have, in this small town, 5 elementary schools. The town where I grew up was much larger and had only two elementary schools. And to this day, still only has two.
