There's a nice guy in my neighborhood that walks with his two very young grandchildren and they pick up trash too. I got to be friends with them because my house is on an intersection with the main road through our neighborhood, so trash ends up in my ditch. I was mowing the grass one day and saw the kids pick up the trash out of my ditch, so I thanked them and had a long conversation with them about dogs and cats 🤣.

Now everytime I see the kids or their grandpa we wave, have a chat, and it feels great to see them. The grandpa will even see me out in town and yell from across the store.
