Congress must pass legislation that codifies Roe v. Wade as the law of the land in this country NOW. And if there aren’t 60 votes in the Senate to do it, and there are not, we must end the filibuster to pass it with 50 votes. (article link with Bernie quote is below)
Why would Congress codify something being struck down by SCOTUS, knowing it will also be struck down? As a pressure tactic to end the filibuster.
Bernie’s call to end the filibuster is not about Roe v. Wade, if this ruling is true and stands the DS knows they can’t counteract it through legislation. But they need the filibuster out of the way to ram their agenda through before they lose control in November.
If they can get that done a new Republican majority will not be able to repeal anything because Biden will veto everything they send up.
Panic in DC continues.
You know. SCOTUS overturning Roe v Wade is a MASSIVE story. What might be even bigger is the leak itself. This could destroy the court.
Destroy it or maybe save it. It could be a very good thing if the gloves come off and we get to see behind the veil. It would be a great deterrent to Judicial activism and judicial cowardice.
And in a weird way, maybe this leak actually preserves the ruling. Until the actual ruling was issued there was a chance someone could be persuaded to change their vote. Now that is probably less lit.
I remember reading an article about how even though the Justices might have disagreements that no matter what, they protected the integrity of the court. That they respected each other even when they disagreed. It was this unity that kept the court strong and respected.
Now ALL of that is put at risk or possibly even completely destroyed. This is going to create an actual rift of distrust in the SCOTUS. The glue that held the Court together is now gone. It's no longer the Court versus the world. Now they are going to turn on each other.
