I think if you are going to be a politician or public figure, you should have to give up all privacy. Your life should have to become a reality show like the Truman show, cameras on you from 24/7. This would help provide accountability and reduce corruption. It might also provide disincentive to the wrong people (those that refuse to operate in the sunshine).
Like reality TV? Oh man, who would go for that? Watched the first Apprentice show in its entirety. Convinced me I would never try to be on one of those shows. All of you, the good, the bad and the ugly are on display for the whole world to see, and you are at the mercy of the producers/editors. Some people who value privacy are not necessarily corrupt. Having lived a fishbowl life for 7 years, I can say it was extremely stressful. This idea would not deter narcissists or psychopaths. Take a look at the kind of people who do reality shows. The Duggar family should have ended their TV show many years ago. Ending the party system plus term limits are a good start. For example, I think POTUS should be a single term of 6 years. The first four years are wasted trying to get re-elected, and 8 years is too long for a POTUS who proves to be a dud.
This idea would not deter narcissists or psychopaths.
This is a good point, however I would counter that these types of people often rely on lying or misleading people in order to attain success. Being recorded all the time would allow us to prove they are lying.
I am not saying people would need to watch all the time, sure you could if you want to, but as long as everything was recorded, there would be accountability if needed.
Would this attract the wrong people? Maybe, but those that abuse power or other people could be exposed and held accountable. Opportunities for corruption would be reduced due to every waking moment being recorded.
